The CSG Industry has experienced extraordinary growth over recent years and the large volumes of brackish water that is produced as a by product during the first few years of CSG extraction is gaining attention from governments and communities.
There have been some recent policy directives that place the onus of responsibility on CSG operators to implement an effective water treatment regime and environmental management program. Previously CSG producers were permitted to dispose the water produced in large evaporation ponds.
The large variability in salinity, contaminant levels and quantity of CSG water across Australia’s CSG regions presents new challenges in the design, deployment and operation of water treatment processing plants.
